The 2004 Thompson Vineyard Syrah, has heady, powerful fruit forward flavors. This vintage has extra barrel aging which intensifies the wine’s mouth feel and aromatics. It has flavors of candied cherries, spicy dark berries with hints of sweet tar. Chocolate mint aromas are beginning to emerge. Made using two new French, one new American, and six older barrels. Deep, saturated ruby. Liqueur-like candied berries, dark chocolate and maple syrup on the nose. Dense, supple and primary, with sound acids framing the flavors of kirsch and blueberry. Tannins are a bit youthfully tough, but this wine would appear to have the structure and material to merit a few years of patience.
